Fujitsu’s New 17-inch, 200GB LifeBook N6200

Shock and awe are the operative words when talking about Fujitsu’s new high-end LifeBook N6200. Awed by the 17-inch WXGA+ screen, the dual 100GB hard drives striped to offer a 200GB capacity (!), the dual-layer multi-format DVD optical drive, the two 512MB sticks of DDR2 RAM, and the built-in TV tuner. All this is supported by Intel’s great Pentium M processor, ATI’s Mobility Radeon X600 Graphics chipset, a tri-mode (a/b/g) Wi-Fi radio, Gigabit Ethernet, a FireWire interface, four UDB ports, ExpressCard and PC Card slots, and an SD/xD/Memory Stick reader. This is a desktop replacement system in the truest sense of the term.
The shock is that this powerful notebook is from Fujitsu, a company renowned more for high-quality lightweight laptops and Tablet PCs. The company claims the N6200 system is ready for anything, including games, graphics, or video. With the configuration listed here ($2,549), we’d have to agree. You can configure your own system online at the Fujitsu Web site, and three configurations will be available in stores.
The base price for a stripped down system (512 MB of RAM, 80 GB hard drive, DVD/CD-RW Combo Drive, and no TV tuner) is $1,749. You do get the same processor, the big, bright screen, Gigabit Ethernet and tri-mode Wi-Fi radio.
Our history of reviewing Fujitsu notebooks (we haven’t gotten our hands on an N6200 yet) shows them to be of high quality and long lasting. The desktop-replacement N6200 is all the computer you should need, in the office or on the road.
